Malaga Adventures—February 4 to 8, 2019

It was a pleasant 40-minute high-speed ferry boat ride to Tarifa, Spain where I took a free bus to Algeciras ferry port.  After hitting up an ATM for 300 Euros, I walked to the nearby autobus station where I had lunch before my Alsa Bus left for Malaga at 2pm.

It was freeway all the way to Malaga where we could see the continuous high-rise condos that now blanketed the Costa del Sol. Using the map.me application I quickly found the Feels Hostel Soho about 1/2 mile from the bus and train stations.

I was really pleased by the cleanliness of not only the hostel but the city as well.

I ended up staying here for 4 days, exploring the waterfront, and the old town and my most enjoyable portion of the visit were to the nearby Caminito del Rey.   The government had recently converted this trail from the most dangerous trail to the most dramatic.

I took the 10 AM train to El Churro—about a 45-minute ride—where we boarded a bus for 1.55 Euro that would take us to the top of the trail.

Since I had not had breakfast, I stopped for a mushroom omelet and met an English couple, Keith and Stella who I would see throughout the trail and at the end.

After about a mile hike, we came to the entrance where we would pay another 10 Euros to enter the park.  From there, we were issued hard hats to protect us from falling rocks and they metered about 20 people at a time access to the trail.

It is hard to believe that they blasted through some hydro plants along with the railroad to Seville through these challenging mountains in the 1900s.

Check out this amazing trail anchored to the face of these steep cliffs.

Check out the old trail that has crumbled in the places below.

We returned to the El Churro train station and although I had a return ticket time of 8pm, Keith and Stella told me to just get on the next train at 3pm and pretend like I am a confused tourist—easy to do for me.

The return trip was uneventful since the train conductor said nothing about my ticket as he punched it.

After another day of touring the narrow streets of the old town, Cathedral, and the Alcabaza fort, I ended up catching a comfortable bus to Granada for 15 Euros some 2 hours away.

I have recently uploaded all of my travel videos to YouTube now that they allow longer uploads and you may want to see my travel adventures there.  That link is

If you do go there, please subscribe to my video channel since it will help me eventually get some income there and help with my future travels. Fewer people are using DVDs so I am transitioning to streaming my travels on my YouTube channel.
