It took quite a while to get to the outskirts of Leon along busy roads eventually, I found a great breakfast place in the town of La Virgen del Camino.
It was a Coca-Cola decorated breakfast place along the busy road of the Camino. They had the perfect breakfast. I had dream for eggs, bacon, OJ, and coffee.
After breakfast, I walked today, a few kilometers to the split between the more rural hike versus the highway road hike, and I chose the rural hike to the left which was about an hour longer.
Along the way, I met few pilgrims who had just started from Leon.
I first hiked with Mariano from Argentina who was soon to be a guide in Iceland. He was a very fast hiker, but joined me for a few hours.
After that it was Sue and Melissa from Canada who would later be joining other friends at Sarria to complete their journey to Santiago.
I spent a lot of time exchanging our life experiences with Sue before she and Melissa headed to their albergue in Villavante and I continued on to Hospital de Orbigo.
Instead of highway sounds, we heard the sounds of these many frogs along the way
After crossing railroad tracks, canals, and busy highways I came to a very long bridge that was the entrance to the town center.
Just past the Cathedral I found the Albergue Karl Leisner and got a bottom bunk with 2 blankets for €10. I showered, washed my shirt and socks, and then headed to dinner.
Dinner service did not start until 8 PM and I enjoyed an expensive dinner of fish soup, bleached, asparagus, and Sea bass with a view overlooking a very long bridge.
When I returned to the albergue, my clothes were clean and dry— thanks to the wind and warm weather.
Like other albergues, lights out or at 10 PM, lights on at 7 AM, and everybody leaves by 8 AM.
