Volcano Concepcion from our resort.
On August 17th, we took a short minibus ride to a Granada bus station where we would enjoy the experience of riding a chicken bus to Rivas, the location of ferry boats to Ometepe Island where we would stay for two nights. These buses don’t have a set schedule but rather they leave when full which just took another half hour. Although no chickens boarded the bus, the aisle filled up with people as the bus got closer to Rivas.
The Rivas bus station had real bus bays, and it was located amidst the crowded market. Fortunately, Dennis had arranged with the driver to take us just outside the market area so we could transfer our luggage to a minibus that would take us to the ferry landing—a couple of independent travelers came with us at Dennis’ invitation.
It was a pleasant hour ferry boat ride to Ometepe Island and were met there by the hotel staff aim a minibus and car. Driving along the road to our resort, we saw that most of the tourists' amenities were shuttered.
We stayed at the beautiful Hotel Finca Venecia at the south end of the island nearest to the larger volcano Concepcion. We have views of it from the pool and a view of Lago de Nicaragua and the mainland dotted with windmills from our second-floor room.
View from our hotel room.
Some folks are hiking, touring with a guide, motorbiking, or just like me chillaxing by the pool or lake with awesome views of the volcano.
The internet is sketchy and slow here so I may wait until we get to Costa Rica for posting.
Tomorrow we leave early for Costa Rica and at that border crossing they want to see our outbound air ticket—I guess they want to make sure we are not staying there.
We are on the return ferry where we took taxis to the Nicaragua/Costa Rica border and pass many windmill farms.
I have recently uploaded all of my travel videos to YouTube now that they allow longer uploads and you may want to see my travel adventures there as well as my other travel videos. That link is https://www.youtube.com/c/huntforgold
If you do go there, please subscribe to my video channel since it will help me eventually get some income there and help with my future travels. Fewer people are using DVDs so I am transitioning to streaming my travels on my YouTube channel.
