We checked into our rooms at the Estacion Hotel which were again very comfortable but a bit far from the central plaza.
We walked down to the Pita Pita Restaurant where we had preordered our meals to speed up dinner. While dining, I again met up with Mardi who was dining there with three others with G Adventures.
When we finished, many of us walked back and saw that most of the businesses had shuttered for the night.
After a typical breakfast, on August 16th, several of us took the combination tour of a city center walk, a boat ride around many small islands owned by both locals and the rich and powerful and it included a view of Monkey Island.

After that, we visited a pottery school and factory where they focused on traditional pottery making—a very elaborate and time-consuming process. Most bought something.
As it approached sunset, we made our way to the Masaya volcano. We drove to the rim of the caldera and only as it got dark could we see the glowing red magma—pretty spectacular.
Stefano and Lewis joined up with us after their taxi ride and hitchhiking from the park entrance and rode back with us. It was a full, and relaxing day.
That night the tour dropped us off downtown so some of us ate at the Garden Cafe where I enjoyed a beef dinner along with Joe and Sam. While eating, a big downpour started so Joe treated us to a taxi ride back to the hotel.
After leaving the hotel in the morning, our minibus dropped us off at the chicken bus station so we could have that “cultural “ experience of driving from Granada to Rivas where we would then catch a ferry to Ometepe Island for a two-day stay at a beachside resort.
I have recently uploaded all of my travel videos to YouTube now that they allow longer uploads and you may want to see my travel adventures there as well as my other travel videos. That link is https://www.youtube.com/c/huntforgold
If you do go there, please subscribe to my video channel since it will help me eventually get some income there and help with my future travels. Fewer people are using DVDs so I am transitioning to streaming my travels on my YouTube channel.
Rick,
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures of the volcano with the glowing lava. Seeing it up close really makes you appreciate how powerful and destructive they can be.
