It was a short walk to Mansilla de las Mulas as the sun came up where I found a perfect breakfast that I had dreamed of: eggs, bacon, OJ, and coffee.
This is the gateway for pilgrims to enter the village of Mansilla de las Mulas on their way to Leon. It was known as the “Door of St. James” for pilgrims who were traveling on the French Route—just like me.
We passed several smelly stockyards like this covered one.
I spent the morning walking toward Leon with Will the Alaska fisherman as we navigated the busy road with lots of car dealers, and other commercial operations.
When we stopped for breaks for some lemonade or other drinks, it seems like all of the bars along the way provide free tapas with your drinks.
Will and the three amigos were staying at the Check-In Albergue at the beginning of town.
I continued to the center of town where I stayed at a hotel called the Inn Boutique of Leon just around the corner from the Cathedral.
After staying at the dormitory style albergues for about three weeks, this was pure luxury.
The king size bed was soft and luxurious with a down duvet, cover for pillows two firm and two soft. I practiced my Spanish watching Spanish language TV, and the orange juice I bought stayed cold in the mini refrigerator
The shower had both a sprayer and a rain shower head spray, and I took advantage of it by taking three showers while there, and drying off with these big, huge, soft bath towels. I thought it was quite reasonable at €61 per night.
I then went out to get some dinner and found out most places don’t serve dinner until 7 PM other than the tapas bars.
I ended up eating right at 7 PM at a restaurant opposite the Cathedral. I ordered an avocado-mango type dish and some deep fried sea bass with dressing. It was dramatic and filling, but not something I would order again.
I missed out being able to go inside the Cathedral, but the outside was spectacular.
In the morning, I rejoined the Camino Santiago Trail that ran just in front of the Cathedral.
