Early morning, there was frost on the ground as we went through the forest and then onward to pastures before dropping down into the open fields of grain
It was another day walking to Burgos past many open fields of grain combined with road walks by a river.
I met up again with Carlene and we talked a a lot while walking the Camino. We ran into a fellow from Manitoba, who said it was his eighth time walking the Camino. He explained he did this every time he began feeling very depressed, and this helped him overcome that feeling.
I gradually lagged behind near the airport and she in the fellow Manitoba kept walking ahead. I kind of felt that she was getting into her therapist mode with him, so it was probably good they joined up.
I then walked with Michael and Ella from the Netherlands who I had met several days ago at our albergue. We talked for a while and turned out. Ella was heading back to work that day, but Michael was continuing.
It was somewhat difficult navigating through Burgos so I stopped near the tourist bureau where the trail was and spotted a Goiko burger joint after failing to find out regular restaurant. It was a real guilty pleasure, eating juicy burger, and roasted potatoes.
It began to drizzle as I made my way up the hill, suddenly finding many restaurants that I wanted to stop at.
I then passed by the huge Burgos cathedral with steep spires. They say it took over 400 years to build.
Occasionally, along the way, they would have these metal cut out pilgrims that kind of led the way out of town for me.
I decided to treat myself to a hotel for the night and saw the one in the guidebook, but it had been fully booked. I used Google maps to locate a nearby hotel and it ended up with the Azofra at €70 a night.
The hotel restaurant was closed until 9 PM, so I found a local place open called the Kebab de Abbas. I later called it the awful falafel because I got food poisoning there which kept me up part the night in the bathroom.
In the morning, I left at 11:15 for a short day after recovering that night, but still not hungry.
