Day 6–to Vianna During 2 Rain and Thunderstorms—4/27/2024

I left the Oasis Trails Albergue at daybreak with strong winds and ominous clouds.  Shortly after hiking, it began to rain so I pulled out my poncho, and it began to rain even more throughout the morning until the bottom of my pants were soaked as were my shoes and socks.

In some places, we had brown rivers running on some parts of the trail. The rains, wind, lightning and thunder continued on until I approached Sansol when the clouds broke and the sun came out.

It seemed like Sansol was the first place in where we could have a meal at this outdoors restaurant. It so it was good to dry out from the rains.  But it would not last for long.

I had a frittata slice with cheese, ham, and potatoes along with OJ and coffee.

As I left the restaurant i again, ran into Maan, Chinese woman who lived in my hometown of Kirkland Washington. We hiked for a while together, but she was a faster hiker so she continued on.

Soon after it, then begin to really rain combined with lightning and thunder until I got near the town of Viana.

I stayed at the Andres Munoz Municipal Albergue which was a beautiful old building but very cold.  It was a good thing they had blankets there. The bathroom facilities were excellent with very hot showers to soothe away my aches and pains of the walk in the two big rainstorms.

For dinner I found a bar serving pintxos— also known as tapas.  I ended up with fried zucchini filled with crab meat and s shrimp selection.

These little dishes are tasty as well as works of art.

  1. Who would think that Spain would be so rainy. It sounds like a real challenge. How are your fellow pilgrims taking it? In this context, gratitude for wicked hot showers.
