Day 14-to Fromista—VERY Windy Day—May 5, 2024

It was a windy day that started out with a 440 foot climb to the Mostelares summit shortly after leaving Castrojeriz.

We then dropped down some to the village of Itero de la Vega where I and others stopped for breakfast.

It was good to get out of the winds that blew from the southwest at up to 37 mph and have some hot food, coffee and OJ.

I continued on in the wind, and stopped for lunch at the Camino Hotel restaurant where I enjoyed a real meal of lentil soup with chorizo, and beef stew, and flan for just €12. So many of the eating places along the Camino just have pastries and sandwiches and not fulsome meals I like.

From there the path was level most of the way to Fromista along a river canal until we crossed the canal locks.

It was a short walk into town about 4:30 PM and the Municipal Albergue was full so I headed to the Estrella which was a few blocks north of the municipal albergue.

It turned out to be a great place to stay with heated rooms, hot showers, a comfortable bottom bunk and lots of blankets.

I got there just in time before the heavy rains came and stayed the night.

My shirt did not dry during the night so I hung it on my pack to dry the following day.
