I left La casa Albergue in Acebo just before sunrise. It continued to be a rocky, steep descent where my trekking poles came in very useful until it leveled out when I got to the village of Molinaseca.
I enjoyed another hardy breakfast of eggs, bacon, OJ, and coffee in Molinaseca.
Just after we came over the hill, we saw the larger city of Ponferrada in the distance.
When we got to the castle, I stopped for some snack before viewing the castle, and Haec went on. I looked at one of the plazas, the Basilica, and then continued on.
The basilica church was having mass when I dropped in.
It then began to rain before I got to Cacabelos.
When I was returning from my search both Mariano and Haec were just coming up the street and I told them about the albergue. They indicated they were going to stay at the municipal albergue, but when I told him the price was just €13, I guess that changed their minds.
When I got back they had checked in and were in the same room I had also shared with Shiree from Netherlands.
Since I couldn’t find any other restaurant, I ended up eating dinner at the albergue which was filling if nothing else.. I had really wanted just some lentil soup with chorizo. Instead, I had a salad, pork loin, and ice cream.
I hope you were well prepared for the rain. The fortress like churches are interesting. What kind of shoes are you wearing? Boots or low ankle walkers?
ReplyDeleteI am wearing some worn in trail runners—X-Ultra Salomon which were the same as I uesed on the last portion of the PCT. I’ve also used new balance and Brooks. Don’t get new shoes for this use the ones most comfortable with while walking around.
